Even though I graduated from West Point, served 20 years in the U.S. Army, and retired as a lieutenant colonel, from age 16 I’ve always considered myself to be a writer. And since I co-founded what has become Grow Strong Leaders in 1987, I’ve published over a dozen books and several hundred articles.

Ten years ago, I shifted my focus from developing strong leaders to developing strong parents. Why did I do that? The answer is that along the way I discovered that nearly all leaders enter the workforce without the basic skills needed for effective leadership, skills they could have begun acquiring in their youth.

So I decided to write for parents of teens. And if you browse this area of my website, you’ll find hundreds of articles for parents.

Recently, I connected with Dr. Alan Nelson, who for nearly 20 years has focused on helping children develop leadership skills. The founder of KidLead Academy, he is also the author of the book, My Kid Leads! and dozens of other books related to leadership. My business partner, Meredith Bell, inteviewed him on her Grow Strong Leaders podcast, a very revealing conversation. Give it a listen!…

Also, Dr. Nelson and I talked on his podcast about how parents can begin developing their children as leaders. You can watch it on YouTube.
